PROCEDURE FOR
TOTAL CONSECRATION to Jesus thru Mary
- Pray sincerely the Total Consecration prayer for a start.
- Do the 33 day Preparation according to St. Louis De Montfort. This consists of readings and ..prayers for at least ten minutes daily. (Day 1 to Day 33). It is Book 2 inside our “Secret of Mary” book 2011 edition. Don't just read the readings, internalize them; don't let your lips just mouth the prayers, truly pray them.
- Read “Secret of Mary” or “True Devotion to Mary” by St. Louis Marie de Montfort to deepen your understanding about Total Consecration, and to know its benefits and how to live it.
...4. Start practicing to do everything through, with, in, and for Mary, for the sake of Jesus, with the prayer, "Totus Tuus. I am yours and all that I have is yours oh my sweet Jesus thru Mary your holy Mother”. Say this everyday.
Choose a day, preferably a Marian feastday to consecrate yourself to Jesus thru Mary.
The 33 days preparation (signifying Jesus 33 years of life on earth) are divided into 4 periods: (1) Renouncement of the world (2) Self-knowledge (3) Knowledge of Jesus (4) Knowledge of Mary.
For each period, there are spiritual exercises, prayers and readings from the Bible, “Imitation of Christ” by Thomas a Kempis and “Secret of Mary” and “True Devotion to Mary” by St. Louis Marie de Montfort. When you read, internalize them. When you pray, pray with your mind and heart.
(1) Renouncement of the World: 12 days
This is a 12-day preparation period that consists of emptying oneself of the spirit of the world through penance and mortification. “ Those who desire to take up this special devotion should spend at least twelve days in emptying themselves of the spirit of the world, which is opposed to the spirit of Jesus…” (Cf. Montfort, TD 227). During these12 days, you pray the Veni Creator, the Ave Maris Stella, the Magnificat, and the Glory Be.
(2) Knowledge of Self: 1 week
“During the first week, they should offer up all their prayers and acts of devotion to acquire knowledge of themselves and sorrow for their sins. Let them perform all their actions in a spirit of humility. They will ask Our Lord and the Holy Spirit to enlighten them saying, “Lord, that I may see,” or “Lord, let me know myself,” or the “Come Holy Spirit.” Everyday they should say the Litany of the Holy Spirit, with the prayer that follows, … They will turn to our Blessed Lady and beg her to obtain for them that great grace which is the foundation of all others, the grace of self-knowledge. For this intention they will say each day the Ave Maris Stella and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin.” (Cf. Montfort, TD 228)
(3) Knowledge of the Blessed Virgin
During the second week, we ask the Holy Spirit to help us better understand the Blessed Virgin:
“They shall devote the second week to the knowledge of the Blessed Virgin.”(Cf. Montfort, TD 229). We must unite ourselves to Jesus through Mary — this is the characteristic of our devotion; therefore, St. Louis de Montfort asks that this week be employed in acquiring a knowledge of the Blessed Virgin. Mary is our sovereign and our mediatrix, our Mother and our mistress. Our Mother is a perfect mold where we are to be molded in order to make her intentions and dispositions ours. This we cannot achieve without studying the interior life of Mary; namely, her virtues, her sentiments, her actions, her participation in the mysteries of Christ and her union with Him. We pray the Litany of the Holy Spirit, the Litany of Loreto, the Ave Maris Stella, the prayer to Mary by St. Louis-Marie, and 5 decades of the Holy Rosary each day for assistance.
(4) Knowledge of Jesus Christ
“During the third week, they shall seek to understand Jesus Christ better… Again with St. Augustine, they may pray repeatedly, “Lord, that I may know You,” or “Lord, that I may see.” (Cf. TD 230). We seek to understand Christ through meditation and the Litany of the Holy Spirit, the Ave Maris Stella, and the Litany of the Holy Name of Jesus, Montfort's prayer to Jesus, and the prayer O Jesus Living in Mary.
The 34th day will be your day of consecration.
- Go to confession within the week before you do the Total Consecration. It is a very good preparation. It also fulfills the requirement so as to gain plenary indulgence after making the TC.
- Day of Consecration:
Have a handwritten or Xeroxed TC copy and sign your name.
On the day of TC, fast, give alms, or offer a votive candle for someone as a tribute to Mary; do some spiritual penance and approach consecration in the spirit of mortification. Hear Holy Mass and receive Holy Communion. Pray for the Holy Father, which is another requirement to gain Plenary Indulgence.
Go for Confession within the week prior to TC and then receive Communion on the day of your TC with the intention of giving yourself to Jesus, as a slave of love, by the hands of Mary.
Pray TC after the Mass, preferrably in front of the tabernacle and sign your copy of the Act of Consecration, and write the date.
...3. Live TC : read and reread Secret of Mary which tells you how to act with, through and for Mary.
- Pass your work and everything you do through Mary and she will purify them, embellish them with her virtues, and increase their meritorious value and effectiveness for you and the souls of purgatory. Jesus is more glorified when we pass everything through Mary. Do everything through, with, in and for Mary for the sake of Jesus, with the prayer, "Totus Tuus. I am yours and all that I have is yours oh my sweet Jesus through Mary your holy Mother. ”.
- Frequently recite the Rosary, and the Magnificat.
- Renew the Total Consecration daily as Blessed Pope John Paul II did. You can pray the long version or the underlined paragraph.
- Yearly, renew the TC on the same feastday. Prepare for 33 days or less, depending on your circumstances.
- Share the Total Consecration to your family, friends, and to persons you know or do not know. As you benefited so much from it, others will do too. Spread this way of life- Mary's life- which is always pleasing God. Share to many so the nationwide Total Consecration in our country will be realized quickly.
